Old Lamp Collection Photos

Yesterday when I was doing some much needed "once-in-a-decade" cleaning I came across a box of old photographs. I finally found those old lamp collection photos that I was sort-of looking for. I wasn't specifically looking for them, it's just that I knew I had them somewhere and was hoping I'd come across them eventually. Well here they are!

But there's a problem. As you can see in these pictures they sustained some water/moisture damage some time ago and have since totally dried out. They are one solid block of photographs all stuck together.

Water damage to photos is bad enough but when they dry out it apparently gets a whole lot worse. Often it is like a permanent glue that cannot be dissolved and irreversible damage results when the photos are separated. I'm sure there are some negatives somewhere which could be used to make new photos but I have no idea where they are so I will assume the worst and attempt to salvage those photos.

So for now the best I can do is to photograph the top photo with a high resolution digital camera before attempting to separate them. Here is that image albeit in a lower resolution:

This photograph above was taken in my shared bedroom at my parents' house in the 1980s. I'm guessing it was early to mid 1980s but not 100% sure. That's my brother's Space Invaders poster on the wall above. (Maybe that could help me date the photo better?) And yeah, that's an Atari game console with the joysticks at the bottom in the middle of the corner cabinet. Gosh I miss those great old games! This was before I moved into my own bedroom where I had a large commercial glass display cabinet along one entire wall, but even then my collection took up most of the shared room! Wow. Memories...

I hope in the near future to attempt separation of those photos. Along with those were photos of my younger years such as with friends and even my university graduation photos. There is even a badly degraded one of Bob Neylon (see How It All Started) in front of some of his lamps in his tiny house. If I have any progress and success I'll put them on here.

The lamp photography progresses slowly but steadily. I predict it might speed up soon. As of today there are 53 lamps catalogued. My target is a minimum of one lamp per month. I know that sounds small but with everything going on in our modern daily lives sometimes even that's a stretch. But hey, while that's my bare minimum I often strive for more - in practice though I'm going to aim for at least ten per month. August was successful with 17, September was 3, so at least my last 2 month's average still stands at 10.
